The weather has finally turned from cold and rainy to sunny and pleasant! I am so happy to return to my favorite artistic activity plein air painting! Visiting my local park and sitting outside in the lovely spring air really made me feel overjoyed!
Coffee and Sketching
It isn’t often that I get a few minutes to spend in a coffee shop and sketch. I was very grateful to have this time the other day while waiting for a friend. In that time I got to sketch out a few out of the patrons. It was interesting to see the different silhouettes that came through the door as well the interpretations of fashion the newer generation is interested in.
Creative Collaboration with my Students
Art games in the classroom are a fun and productive way to introduce creative collaboration and storytelling into the art classroom. In my last digital art class I took it upon myself in the last 10 minutes of class to pass out a few papers and pencils, then have students draw in two-minute intervals, at the end of each interval students pass their paper and draw the next component of the drawing. This game was a fun and playful way to create interesting pieces of art!

Gustav Klimt Gold in Motion Exhibit
I had the opportunity yesterday to finally visit the Hall Des Lumieres and see one of their highly talked about exhibits. For anyone not in the know, the Hall Des Lumieres acts as a projection gallery, less the standard walk-around the gallery and more an all-encompassing experience. With classical music filling the mostly bare venue; sans a few comfortable seats and floor pillows for those who want to lay on the floors and watch the show; The star of the show is the projection that floods the venue and turns well-known classics into a brand new experience.
The photos and videos I took could not do this experience justice and after having watched the entire show twice my mind was buzzing with how to bring such a simple yet complex experience into the classroom. The combination of digital effects, narrative storytelling, photoshop, sound mixing and over all production design creates an exciting opportunity for students passionate enough about artwork to make a new type of exhibition space.
I cannot stress enough the importance of the space and music, especially in this exhibit. The combination of music and visuals created a truly immersive experience and an opportunity to show how the arts can blend together and strengthen one another.
Town of Huntington Cat Shelter Secret Santa
Creating these posters for the cat shelter in Huntington was a ton of fun and I am so happy with the designs! I would love to introduce this into my classroom through projects inspired by monoline tattoos.

Plein Air Painting and Photography
I had the opportunity to visit the park today and do some Plein-air painting. It felt like today was going to be the last nice day of fall before the cold starts taking over so I am very happy that I got the chance to enjoy it. Not only was I able to sit outside and get some painting done but I also managed to snap some photos and pet a few lovely dogs. It was a great experience overall and helped me feel a lot let anxious. Plein Air painting is a joy few get to experience and I hope to expose my students to the joy of outdoor painting with field trips and/ or hybrid classroom education.
I try to keep my setup fairly cheap to avoid overspending on things I don’t get much use out of. I tried so many easels and overpriced outdoor painting stands, but they all did not work, I had the most luck today with my current setup. Two $10 fold-out tables for target, a $5 paint stand from five below, and a beach chair! All in all very effective, comfortable, and affordable.
